time to help little ones master a new sport or fine-tune the skills of students already athletically proficient.
Youngsters were observed carrying home elaborate “marble mazes” they had created at Science camp, and throughout the week, shrieks of delight could be heard emanating from the stage, as WCDS English teacher and drama coach Kristin Hauger drew out the acting talents of her troupe. The week culminated with the Friday afternoon performance of The Trojan War, starring eight children ranging in age from six to nine. Based loosely on stories adapted from D’Aulaire’s Book of Greek Myths, the students exercised a wide range of creative talents. Not only did they memorize and deliver three acts of lines; they helped write the script and also designed costumes and props, including swords, shields, a boat, a “horse,” and the program cover (illustrated by third grader Brier Clough).
