But Usseiy believes Garreau missed the boat in failing to address the “manipulation” of technology in food production.
“The modem food system given to us by technology is wrecking” food, said Usseiy, a “homesteader” who grows organic fruits and vegetables and raises organic chickens.
Ruritan Club member Tbm Davenport of Delaplane called Garreau’s talk “very stimulating.”
“There’s the double-edged sword to technology,” said Davenport, an independent filmmaker. “The Frankenstein monster thing. They (technologies) have elements of good and elements of the destruction of human life. The enhancement of human possibilities can be used a number of ways for good and for bad.”
