Wakefield Announces Speakers
Internationally renowned diplomats, scientists and authors will address Wakefield student assemblies every other Friday at 2:30 p.m., beginning in September and continuing throughout the academic year, Ron McRae, Wakefield teacher and event sponsor, announced July 18.
Speakers already committed include Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Dale Tahtinen; The Honorable Paul Findley, Chairman of the World Hunger Council; Marcello Truzzi, a leading sociologist and magician; Colonel William Baxter, USA (ret.) of the Library of Congress, one of the nation’s leading authorities on the Soviet military; and Alexander Cockbum, beat-selling author of The Threat: Inside the Soviet Military Machine.
Biographies of the speakers will be available September 10, when the schedule is announced.
The public is invited.
• Pond Named To Warner Campaign ~
U.S. Senator John W. Warner (R-Va.) announced July 11 county chairmen and coordinators to lead his reelection campaign. Among Warner selections in the 7th District is Jesse Pond of Sperryville, chairman of Rappahannock’s Republican Committee.
Pond will serve as unit chairman and coordinator for Warner’s reelection bid. Warner will be challenged this fall by Democrat Eythe C. Harrison, a former state legislator from Norfolk.
Other 7th District Republicans named to Warner’s campaign are: Ken Gieselman and Tom Tear, Culpeper County; Edward Eddins of Madison County; June Funkhouser of Orange County.
