9th Annual Wine Festival

The 9th Annual Virginia Wine Festival (not associated with the Virginia Wineries Association)—the oldest continuous wine festival in the U. S.—will be held Saturday, August 25 in the Middleburg area.

The Vinifera Perpetual Monteith Trophy—the most expensive and elegant award in the industry—will be presented on Festival Day to the Georgia Grape Growers Association for its important contribution to a premium wine industry in the Peach State.

Virginia now has 24 licensed wineries, many of which make high quality table wines but are tucked away in the nearby Blue Ridge Mountain hills.

New special events will include a waiter’s race, grafting demonstration (Schloss Tucker Nursery, Waterford, Va.), Shenandoah Valley Cloggers with country music, together with the popular grape stompin’ contest, jousting tournament, Orange County Hunt hounds, etc. Admission $8, Box P, The Plains, Va. 22171, Vinifera Wine Growers Assoc., tele (703) 754-8564.
