when one considers the demise of institutional racism. By institutional, I am referring to institutions denying black citizens the equal rights they are guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States of America. Such institutions as the military, the public schools, colleges and universities, public transportation, public services such as lodging or restaurants, public businesses and lending institutions regularly segregated black and white soldiers, black and white students, black and white passengers, black and white patrons and black and white job applicants.
These aparted shackles are now lately broken. The military, the public schools, colleges and universities, public transportation, restaurants and hotels, businesses and banks are now legally required to accord all citizens their civil rights.
And happily the streets did not run ankle deep in blood as Mr. Kilpatrick predicted just thirty years ago. We are rather stronger and more secure because we have a more open society which tries to benefit and benefit from its members skills and strengths rather than frustrate them.
