But the hotel itself had been slandered. It was dean though small. Hie unairconditioned rooms were comfortably cool in San Fran* cisco’ unique climate. Hie food in the adjoining dining room was more than acceptable. Hie staff was unfailingly courteous and accommodating. Hie water was hot, the beds were comfortable, and it was five minutes by taxi from the Moecone Center where the convention was held.
In fact, a sort of mutual admiration society developed between the hotel staff and the Virginians. By the week’s end the Virginia flag was flying high over it’s roof!
In the end, Virginia cast 26 votes for Jackson, 18 for Gary Hart and 84 for Walter Mondale.
