Even though he never got to see Rappahannock, Bruce Michael Neufeld indirectly brought his mother, Lorraine Robson, to the county.
Bruce died in 1978, seven months after his 26th birthday. He was a victim of leukemia.
He lived a big life in brief years. A world traveler and seasoned photographer, Bruce left his legacy in photographs. His “African Collection” recently was displayed at the Rappahannock County Library.
Bringing his mother to Rappahannock was an unusual story of love and compassion. It centered around one man’s need to return to the Holy Land. <
Bruce left America for Israel in 1977, before being diagnosed as leukemic. He had decided to make it his home.
His decision had not been a hasty one: In September, 1973, when Bruce first heard news of the Yom Kippor War between Egypt and Israel, his intense feelings for the nation caused him to go to Jerusalem, where he volunteered far four months in a hospital aiding wounded servicemen.
