On Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7:30, Professor Calvin Forbes of Howard University will speak on The Color Purple by Alice Walker. These will be followed by Professor Suzanne Jones of the University of Richmond, addressing The Second Coming by Walker Percy, on Monday, Oct. 1, and Professor Sybille Jobin of Mary Baldwin College, talking about Gail Godwin’s A Mother and Two Daughters on Monday, Oct. 8.
At all of these sessions, participants will join in discussions of the works which they will have read before the lectures.
The program is free—it is publically funded—and open to anyone who will register at the library where the books in paper-back will be available. A person not wishing to purchase the books can borrow library copies.
The program, “The Ties That Bind - Relationships in Fiction; Individuals and Communities” is designed to educate, to entertain and to provide a forum for an exchange of ideas among all facets of the community.
