impose the same or additional restrictions, including ordering one or both spouses to participate in treatment, counseling or other programs designed for the rehabilitation and reconciliation of the parties.
The restrictions may remain in effect up to one year, and any violation of an order constitutes contempt of court and is punishable by a fine and/or jail sentence.
The Women’s Abuse Shelter is a volunteer, non-profit organisation partially funded by United Way. Currently, the shelter is soliciting grants for funding of two part-time directors and to increase support programs for battered women and their children.
Office space in the Culpeper area also is being sought to help establish a more visible presence in the community. Volunteers welcome and needed for shelter upkeep, training, publicity, speakers bureau and one-on-one volunteers.
