The restrictions may remain in effect up to one year, and any violation of an order constitutes contempt of court and is punishable by a fine and/or jail sentence.
The Women’s Abuse Shelter is a volunteer, non-profit organisation partially funded by United Way. Currently, the shelter is soliciting grants for funding of two part-time directors and to increase support programs for battered women and their children.
Office space in the Culpeper area also is being sought to help establish a more visible presence in the community. Volunteers welcome and needed for shelter upkeep, training, publicity, speakers bureau and one-on-one volunteers.
