The Rappahannock News asked the following questions of Robert Dennis, WSA Chairman.
Question: What is the history of the Sperryrille aewer project, both from a Health Department standpoint and a funding standpoint?
Answer The project dates back to the 60*s when the state health department analysed Sperryville wells. Fifteen years ago, none of them met state standards. Virtually all of them were polluted with some components of human waste.
In the 70’s, the health department restricted some facilities in Sperryville. Again, in the ’seventies, an application for a federal grant to correct this problem was successful. In fact, early in that decade, Sperryville was number five on the health department’s list of dangerous sites. This list was required by the Clean Water Act, passed in 1972.
