The stormy but quick annointment of former Vice President Walter Mondale, as the Democrats 1984 presidential candidate, was not exactly a surprise to most members of the Virginia delegation to the party’s national convention in San Francisco. The partisans of the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Sen. Gary Hart fought the good fifth but the arithmetic of the final outcome was never really in doubt.
Now this does not mean that the Virginians trip to San Francisco was without its points of interest. Indeed there were not only points of interest, but a potential political significance in the Old Dominion as well
