Astronomer Gerald S. Hawkins photographed Halley’s Comet on March 23 as it went over Hawkridge Farms on the Rappahannock-Culpeper line near Boston. The comet, a spectacular object in 1910, was difficult see on this visit because it was 40 million miles away. The view will be better when it returns in 2062. This view is a parting shot as the comet (with tail, lower middle of photo) as it goes off into deep space.
