“I promise to respect all people, all property, and all things by helping in any way I can,” pledged about 50 Rappahannock County Elementary School students and staff during the last three weeks.
Miss Susan Wittl’s second grade class has organized a “Care Club.” Prospective members must repeat the pledge and spread care around the school so that it can be a better place to work.
Miss Wittl explained the formation of the club. “I confronted my class with the problem of people just not caring. Then we talked about the students not taking care of the lunchroom, for instance. We elaborated on the idea of what caring really was. Then I thought of the idea of starting a care club where only people who care could be members.”
“They’re just at the age where the idea of belonging to a club is really great. So I made up a pledge and I decided that we would nominate and elect officers,” Miss Wittl said.
