Rappahannock’s varsity baseball team is now 4-1 for the season. This past week the Panthers beat Page County and Randolph-Macon Academy, but lost in Bull Run District competition against Stonewall.
RCHS vs Stonewall
The Panthers lost their first game of the season last Friday night at Stonewall, 11-4, in a game that was played under the lights.
Stonewall exploded for seven runs in the second inning and at one point led 11-0.
“We made mistakes in the field, and we didn’t hit the ball like we’ve shown we can,” said Panther coach Jon Heddleston. Stonewall punched out 10 hits to Rappahannock’s seven and capitalized on four Panther miscues.
Rappahannock freshman Doug Smith got his initial start on the mound, and was relieved by senior Tommy Jenkins in the third inning.

It took Rappahannock all seven innings to defeat a determined Randolph-Macon Academy team 7-6 April 10. The Panthers led 5-2 at one point, but RMA deadlocked the score 6-6 in the top of the seventh before a put out at home plate ended their rally.
Rappahannock came back strong in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs. RMA walked in the winning run as Rappahannock notched its fourth win of the season.
