It looked more like a performance of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town than a meeting of the Washington Town Council last Wednesday night.
Mayor Peter Kramer and council members Newbill Miller, Wallace Critzer, Evelyn Willis and Dorothy Clater took center stage at the Gay Street Theater.
Their moment in the spotlight was short, however, as they breezed through an abbreviated agenda.
Mayor Kramer announced that the town’s annual spring cleanup week will begin April 21 and culminate in a special trash pick-up on Saturday, April 26. Residents are reminded to have non-bumable refuse bagged, bundled or tied at streetside.
Dawn Fisher asked if the council could do something about “a very unappreciative element that puts up yard sale signs on every piece of wood they can tack them to.”
Holding up two bright orange construction paper signs she picked up off the street, Mrs. Fisher complained that the litter “makes the town look tacky.”
