The State Highway and Transportation Board banned large trucks from Route 17 until the 10-mile stretch is widened. Many truckers are using roads in Rappahannock as a detour.
Because of the ban, Rappahannock County has “all kinds of heavy road traffic and we don’t need it,” Mr. Estes said. “It’s unbelievable the amount of truck traffic we’ve picked up.”
