She asked the council to consider a regulation that would require people to remove the signs once the advertised event has been held.
“We have so many major zoning questions we’re dealing with now that it would be difficult to get into this,” Mayor Kramer replied. “We’re rewriting our comprehensive plan; we have serious holes in the zoning ordinance that need to be patched.
“I think the sign issue needs addressing, but I don’t think we have the energy for it right now.”
He told the council members that the town’s Planning Commission is working on the parking question and on zones necessary to bring the zoning ordinance up to date. “They should have something to forward to us soon.”
Evelyn Willis suggested that the council members “informally encourage” townspeople to take down outdated signs, especially at the stop sign in the center of town.
“If people come through and put up signs, they should have the courtesy to come back and take them down,” agreed Mayor Kramer.
