and Steinier combined to capture an 8-6 victory in the number two seed. Stephen Landis of Front Royal and Hunter lost the third match 8-3, closing the series with a 6-3 victory for Warren County.
The girls’ team, although not for lack of effort, were unable to win a match either in singles or doubles, thus losing 9-0 to the Warren County team.
Wakefield’s lacrosse team opened their season officially with a home match against Woodberry Forest. The less experienced Wakefield team played a strong match but was unable to stop the Woodberry squad, who emerged with a 4-2 victory. Louis Poore of Washington and Marc Foerstemann of Huntly scored the two goals for the Wakefield team.
Coach Patrick Duffy was pleased with the performance of his team. He added that he has seen a steady improvement in their skills since the team began practice in early February, and that he is hopeful the squad will see a victory in the near future.
The lacrosse team has two matches scheduled this week. They will face Woodberry again and travel to St. James in Hagerstown for another match.
