“They night we were released they took us down to the airport and. put us on an Algerian airliner. We didn’t know anything about it until the very last minute. As the wheels lifted up there was a big cheter from every American,” recalled Col. Holland.
Col. Holland shpwed the pants that he wore for fourteen and a half months. They were the same ones that he had on when the embassy was attacked. He had mended them with dental floss while in captivity.
He also showed an Iranian shirt and sandals that he had worn. They were given sandals to wear so that it would be virtually impossible for them to escape through the snow. Everyone had to wear sandals except for the educator, Dr. Koegh whose feet were too big for sandals. He was allowed to wear shoes.
Col. Holland presented a slide show pertaining to Iran, his captivity, and their homecoming. President Reagan presented each hostage with a rosewood box with a presidential seal containing a miniature American flag.
