SYSTEM HAS IMPROVED

“It’s a lot better school system than when I went to school,” said Sarah Brown, who attended the old Washington school until sixth grade and then the new consolidated elementary school before graduating from RCHS in 1974. “The children are being taught more subjects and they seem to be more interested in learning. The computers are a wonderful improvement. They just fascinate the children.”

But though she sees improvement, Mrs. Brown feels there’s room for more. “Teachers need to understand the children better. I’m concerned about the reports I hear of verbal abuse - teachers yelling at children, telling them they’re stupid. I know kids need to be disciplined, but that’s no way to teach. The children are frightened, and I don’t think a child should be frightened of a teacher.”
