To the editor:
I would' like to commend the newspaper on the coverage of the supervisors’ meeting dealing with the appointment to the School Board seat in Hampton District. The background coverage of four candidates was very well reviewed.
I was a bit disappointed in the opening quote that I was stated as saying. It brings forth the impression that I am merely an “uneducated housewife.” I must accept some of the blame for this because when I approached my supervisor about the opening he did not tell me I would need to present a resume, a spokesperson, or a rooting section. I did attend the meeting unprepared and I may pay for this error.
To explain, my statement “I don’t have as much education” was followed by a gesture to one of the previous candidates who had been introduced and her educatidnal background mentioned. I merely meant that I do not have a college degree as she does.
I would like to state that I am a 1974 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, from there I worked for the U.S.P.S. in Washington under Carol Miller, then I went to work for the Rappahannock News when Sarah Latham was there, I then went to work for the Rappahannock National Bank which I left seven or eight years ago to stay home and start a family.
My family and I are members of the Washington Baptist Church, and I am a member of the Washington Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where I have held the position of
