At the “pay out” meeting last Thursday, the last of the fiscal year and the final opportunity for using 1987’s appropriations, the county School Board spent $10,450 of the $54,429 remaining in its 1986-87 budget.
The money went for 10 electric typewriters ($3,750), alterations to the electrical outlets in the typing classroom ($2,000), a demonstration table for the science lab ($1,800), crash pads for both ends of the gymnasium ($1,000), boys’ basketball uniforms ($1,500) and 75 built-in locks for hall lockers.
Superintendent Robert Estabrook said the remaining $43,979 is to be applied to the cost of fixed furniture for the high school expansion, specifically seats for the new auditorium and bleachers for the new gymnasium.
However, that balance in the 1987 budget has not actually been expended and will apparently revert to the county’s general fund from which it must be reappropriated by the Board of Supervisors before it can be allocated by the School Board.
