Vickie Pittard, the new Methodist minister, joins a vanguard of lady lawyers, blacksmiths, veterinarians and county court clerks in the assault on jobs usually reserved for men. Ministering to the Methodist congregations in Flint Hill, Sperryville, Washington and Huntly is Miss Pittard’s first full time appointment. Miss Pittard said she is looking forward to working with*., her new Rappahannock parishioners. “People have time for people here. I’m glad to see that.”

A check Tuesday afternoon of a fire which smoldered along the mountain ridge near Chester Gap the previous day indicated that everything was “ok,” according to Forest Warden Tippy Jenkins. Fire units from Chester Gap, Flint Hill and Front Royal responded after being alerted by area residents. However the fire was inaccessible to fire trucks so four-wheel drive vehicles were used as far as they would go, then firemen and other volunteers hiked the remainder of the distance.

Garden Club went on a field trip for the group’s June meeting last week. The club visited the Burwell-Morgan Mill in Millwood. The mill began operation in 1768, and operated until 1953.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eldred, owners of Washington House of Reproductions in Washington, have contracted to do the reproduction of lighting fixtures at Oklahoma State University. The restored fixtures will be placed in the original University building, Old Central. The Eldreds will be doing 35 fixtures that are the gas type. The fixtures will be completed in August and sent to the University where they will be installed.
