It is not known how many soldiers I in the Revolutionary War came from the ! Front Royal area, but certainly her sons j must have constituted a majority of j Buck’s Minute Men, whose youthful captain, Thomas Buck, later built the handsome Bel Air homestead, the oldest brick structure in Warren County.
It is also known that men from the area fought under Daniel Morgan, whose Virginia riflemen could “pick off captains at double the distance of common musket shot,” went with George Rogers Clark into the vast Northwest to conquer the empire.
Bishop Francis Asbury, famed in history as “The Prophet of the Long Road,” included Front Royal in his preaching itinerary in 1804 and 1805, recording in his diary that the town “contains about 60 houses, a Methodist
