Mr. Fannon got the match off to a fast start, breaking away from the pack to score two goals for Rappahannock in the first chukker. Mr. Fernandez, at the number 3 position, contributed two more goals in the second chukker, erasing the visitors’ handicap and bringing the match even at four.
In the third chukker, Mr. De Dios, playing number 3 for Los Indios, managed to break Rappahannock’s scoring streak, knocking in two goals. A hard-riding, aggressive polo player, Mr. De Dios used his four-goal handicap to good advantage, accounting for all four of Los Indios’ tallies.
Just before the half Mr. Fernandez, who plays with a four handicap as well, took a feed from Phillip Staples (playing number 4) and put Rappahannock to within one goal of Los Indios. The half ended with Los Indios in the lead, 6-5.
In the fourth chukker Mr. Staples, a three handicap player also riding his first game of the year following an injury, tied the game with a good shot in traffic, bringing Rappahannock even at six.
The tie was short-lived however, as Mr. De Dios put Los Indios back in the lead with a single tally late in the fourth chukker, putting the score at 7-6. That score proved to be
