Highway Equipment Mechanic A The Virginia Department of Transportation has one opening for Highway Equipment Mechanic A at the Warrenton Residency Shop. Duties: Makes repairs to automobiles, trucks, and highway maintenance and construction equipment Repairs gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical systems, brakes, and hydraulic systems. Performs some welding and fabricating operations. Installs arid repairs snow removal equipment Instructs operators in the care and maintenance of equipment Completes work orders, requisitions, time cards, bin cards, and stock issue sheets. Keeps shop in neat and orderly condition. Performs official state inspections. Qualifications: Knowledge of general shop practices and diagnostic and repair techniques. Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines. Skill in performing mechanical repairs on engines, differentials, and other automotive and equipment components. Ability to operate equipment Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to operate engine analyzer, welder, wheel balancer, and other shop equipment Ability to read and write and to perform arithmetic calculations. Selected candidate will be required to become certified as a state inspector. Must possess a valid Virginia Operator s license. Safety shoes are required in the performance of the above duties. Salary: $14,655 - $20,019 (Grade 6)
