The fourth annual Harmony Hollow Foot Race will be run Saturday, July 11, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center south of Front Royal on Route 604 (the Harmony Hollow road) off of Route 522.
This year’s race is for the benefit of the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center and is being sponsored by the People’s Bank of Front Royal.
Road construction and recommendations from participating runners prompted a decision to change the distance and course for the race again this year. Race officials hope to maintain the new format for the race for the years to come.
This year’s race will be a five-kilometer run and will be on a much flatter course than in previous years. There will be no big hills at the beginning and end. The fairly flat out and back course will start at the athletic field parking lot, go slightly down hill at the beginning in an eastward direction toward Route 522. The turnaround at 1.55 miles will be on flat, new pavement. Splits will be called at the one mile, the turnaround, and 2.1 miles. Water will be available at the start/finish and halfway point.
Plaques will be given to the top three runners overall in the male and female divisions. The top three runners in each age group (female and male) will also receive plaques. Overall winners are not eligible for awards in their age groups. The awards ceremony will be held at the swimming pool at 10 a.m.
All runners will receive a T-shirt; race results will be mailed to participants; showers will be available to all runners; runners will be allowed to swim free of charge after the awards ceremony and there will be refreshments at the end of the course. '
Registration on the day of the race ($8.00) will begin at 8 a.m., as will packet pickups of those who preregistered.

Artists visited
Three Rappahannock County artists were visited on June 25 by the Virginia Museum to be considered for the 1988 Bienniel Exhibition. They included Marie Petri Kilpatrick of Woodville and Robin Purnell and Rex Slack of Washington. Ms. Purnell and Mr. Slack are both a members of Middle Street Gallery, a non-profit artists’ cooperative.
