It was a perfect day for polo.
A clear blue sky, bright sunshine and a field in prime condition set the stage for the Rappahannock Polo Club to score a lopsided 11-8 victory over the Los Indios Polo Team. Though the score does not reflect the upset, it was just that, since Los Indios began the match with four goals awarded by handicap.
Led by Bill Fannon (0 goal), playing his first match of the season, Rappahannock consistently outrode and outshot the visitors. Mr. Fannon’s son Chet (1 goal) played number 2 for Rappahannock, while Daniel Fernandez (4 goal) played the number 3 pivot position. Number 4 for Rappahannock was Phillip Staples, a three-goal player and Rappahannock’s defensive standout.
Los Indios had a father and son combination from South Carolina leading its offensive attack. Bobby Knoth Jr. (0 goal) played the number 1 point position. Backing him up at number 2 was his father, Bobby Sr. (1 goal). Mr. Knoth Sr. played a pivotal role in breaking up several Rappahannock scoring opportunities.
