Nflg C.U. Tholand

Nils Carl Ulric Tholand, 20, died June 26 in a Richmond hospital.

Survivors include his mother Mrs. Phyllis Cothran Mastiller of Richmond, his father, Jens U. Tholand of Sperryville, two sisters, Stephanie and Eva Tholand, his grandmothers, Mrs. J. Cothran of Culpeper and Mrs. N.K.G. Tholand of Sperryville, two uncles, Col. James Cothran of Brussels, Belgium, and Claus 6. Tholand of Richmond, and an aunt Carolyn Tholand Ward of Alexandria.

Graveside services were held June 28 at St Mary's Episcopal Church Cemetery on River Road in Richmond.

LFCC names

honor lists

Dr. William H. McCoy, president of Lord Fairfax Community College, has announced the names of local students who were named to the President's Academic Honors List and Dean’s List for the spring quarter.

Amy L. Shotton was among the students named to the President’s List, which is composed of students achieving at least a 3.8 grade-point average while taking a course load of 12 quarter-hour credits or more.

Rappahannock residents named to the Dean’s List were Pamela R. Clater, Melissa D- Grimsley, Patricia A. Jenkins and Donna S. Smoot. Students named to the Dean’s List have achieved at least a 3.2 grade-point average while completing at least 12 quarter-hours of credits during the marking period.

Local graduates

at Longwood

Longwood College, outside FarmviUe, held its 1987 commencement exercises recently and several local students were among the Class of 1987.

Cathy A. Atkins of Flint Hill, was graduated aumma cum lauds with a B. S. in Business Administration. Sherri L. Brown of Sperryville also was awarded a B. S. in Business Administration, and Ginger L. Eidson of AmissvUle received a B. S. in Elementary Education.

Longwood College graduated s total of 484 degrees, including 46f undergraduate degrees and 18 master’s degrees.

Mylle H. Bell, director of corporate planning for BellSouth Corporation in Atlanta, gave the commencement address.
