not. I think that, in reality, the adult’s display of anger, especially over a period of time, can foster a land of disrespect in the minds of children. Although they cannot put it into words, children intuitively sense that the anger is caused by the adult’s inability to control the situation in a reasonable, rational way.

In my work with juveniles with behavior problems I have found it is the adults who appear and act as though they are under control, objective, rational, fair and dignified who receive the most respect from their children and other youngsters with whom they come into contact.

Anger used as a tool in discipline is ineffective and can damage the relationship between the parent and their child. Most of us want a loving and nurturing relationship with our children. Perhaps more patience and thinking before we act will help us reach that goal.
