The DOE says it will randomly spot check applications for purchase documentation - and it will issue no refund of less than $15. That’s how much it costs the U.S. Treasury to do the paperwork.
Direct payments from the $1.5 billion fund do not apply to purchases from farm cooperatives - only to independent sources. Co-ops already have received $45.5 million to benefit farmer-members through their patronage. U .. ^
This refund represents about 20 percent of the total overcharge fund. The other 80 percent - some $1.2 billion - will be split among federal and state governments.
Mr. Delano urged Virginia farmers to contact their county farm bureau offices to apply for a refund. “We want to help our farmers get some dollars back in their pockets,” he added.
