Meyersdale, Pa., took first place in the judging, while North Stafford High School from North Stafford, Va.* placed second.
Four prizes were awarded to the majorette corps who marched in the parade. First place went to White Star of Manassas, second place went to The Revengers of Martinsburg, W. Va., third place was won by The Toppettes of Manassas, and fourth prize was awarded to the Loudoun County majorettes of Leesburg.
The Best Appearing Junior Miss was Diane Sealock, Junior Miss Rappahannock.
The Parade Chairman’s Award was won by the Blue Ridge Arson Squad of Front Royal, and the Judges’ Award went to Gabe Hoffman of Rixeyville, also known as “Happy the Clown.”
First place for the Antique Car category went to a 1949 Plymouth pickup entered by Twin River Food Market and second place was awarded to a 1951 Willys Jeepster owned by Ned Mahorney.
Among the floats, the overall Best Float award was won by Settle’s Garage of Flint Hill.
