Washington theater-lovers are very familiar with Hart Whiteman, the founder ami artistic director of the Source Theatre, and founder and producer of the Washington Theatre Festival, a four-week new play festival now in progress, as it has been each summer for the past seven years.
Rappahannock audiences met Whiteman in the two productions he brought here: “Equus” and “No Exit”, and through a well-received acting workshop arranged by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community. He’s a director, actor, writer and teacher who has played hundreds of the most demanding dramatic roles in traditional and modern theater, often directing at the same time.
This summer, the Gay Street audience will have the opportunity to see Whiteman in a different light, as he presents four short comic pieces from the festival, a few days after it closes in Washington.
Two of the pieces were written by Whiteman himself: ‘The Obscure Reign of Gaius Julius Iacoccus” and “Bikini Girls from Mars.” The other two offerings are “Forever Ever,” by Magda Zalan, and “Long Day’s Journey Into Ice,” by Robert Pig
