l'/2 tsp. baking powder 1 Vi tap. soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1 Vt c. sour cream 1 small pkg. instant vanilla pudding mix 1 pkg. chocolate chips 2 tsp. cinnamon and 1/2 c. sugar, mixed Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease tube pan. Combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla in large mixer bowl. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Mix in flour, baking powder, soda and pudding mix alternately with sour cream. For tube pan spread 1/3 of batter in pan and sprinkle with 1/3 of cinnamon sugar mixture and 1/3 chocolate chips. Repeat one more time and use balance of cinnamon sugar mixture and chocolate chips for top of cake. Bake, about 1 hour. Makes 14-16 servings. A new twist for strawberry jam is Liz Tole’s Strawberry Mint Jam. It is very simple. Follow recipe on Sure Jell folder. Drop a sprig of mint in jar before pouring hot jam. Seal using hot water bath. The “All-American” Apple Pie was well presented from Rappahannock. Lill Crews shared her family’s favorite. Lill’s Apple Pie Crust: 1/3 cup sifted regular flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 cup Crisco Combine flour and salt, then cut in Crisco with two knives or forks until well blended, then sprinkle with 3 tablespoons cold water and work into a film ball. Chill well before rolling. (Double recipe if a thicker crust is preferred.) This makes a 10-inch pie. Filling: 8 large or 10 medium tart apples, pared and sliced 1 y3 to 2 cups sugar (summer Ram bos are not as sour as some others and sugar must be adjusted accordingly) 2/3 cup regular sifted flour 2 level tsp. cinnamon 1/8 tsp. nutmeg (See RECIPES, p. 10)
