gott, all staged by th«r HBW2 Group. The short plays, chosen from about 452 submitted and 70 or so actually chosen by a volunteer panel of qual ified playreaders, are staged by the; Source Theater and performed by 200 volunteer actors to draw attention to new talent.
“If it works, you should be able to see all these playwriting and performing groups and come away saying, ‘Look at all this theater going on in Washington’,” explained Keith Parker, Source’s literary manager.
Parker has a few favorites that he keeps for the flagging energies of his play reading staff. There’s the country-western musical version of Milton’s “Paradise Lost” and the one in which three Las Vegas showgirls are the only survivors of a nuclear holocaust. As yet, these gems have not been staged, and (Jay Street Theater goers will have to be content with “Bikini Girls from Mars” and the other three, all original, all funny, and all right here in Rappahannock.
The Highlights will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, August 15. Ticket prices vary: $4 for students, $6 for RAAC members, and $7.50 for the general public.
