Three labs was original intent
Without elaborating on when the plans were changed, School Board member Paul Nichols confirmed that it was tjie board’s intent “in the first part of the plans, to have three labs.”
At the special School Board meeting Monday night, the board members seconded Dr. Gan gel’s assurances to the supervisors. The $46,781 will be used first for the science lab, “then we’ll look at other areas - the bleachers and seats for the auditorium,” said Chairman Beverly Massie.
Bill Oliver recalled that the board had earlier considered having the bleachers from the old auditorium reconditioned at a machine shop in the valley for a substantial savings over buying new gym seating. According to the architect, the old bleachers will fit, he added. “And it might be a good shop project to refinish the seats, put in new dowel rods.”
Mrs. Massie pointed out that the expense of equipping the third wet lab would be partially offset by the elimination of a door in the shop class, as requested by the shop instructors.
As to progress on the building project, Dr. Gangel said he expected the two regular classrooms to be ready by the opening of school in Spetember, despite the late arrival of bar joists that has delayed getting the roofs up for at least three weeks. The new science lab should be under roof but may not be furnished when the students return, he reported, adding that the library expansion is “in good shape.”
