New hours listed

for Social

Security office

Effective immediately, the Culpeper Social Security office has new hours. The office will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., according to Bruce A. Hundley, Social Security manager in Culpeper.

This change is being made to try to better serve the public by providing time in the afternoon to return phone calls and schedule appointments, Mr. Hundley said. This extra time in the afternoon will allow the claims representatives to complete work on new claims and prepare them for input into the computer system.

The employees will also have time to return telephone calls the same day they received them. Formerly telephone calls frequently ■were not returned until the next day.

The service representative also need this time to process applications for Social Security numbers, changes of address and requests for direct deposit of checks.

The new office hours are experimental and any comments received will be welcomed. For an appointment or information about Social Security, Medicare or Supplemental Security Income, call the Culpeper Office at 825-3500. The office is located at 806 N. Main St.
