With copies of a legal opinion in hand on Monday, Rappahannock’s supervisors enacted an amendment to relieve the county of compliance with the terms of its own zoning ordinance. The immediate impact will be to negate the requirement for the board to issue a special exception permit to itself for the proposed sanitary landfill on the 100-acre Stover tract near Amissville.
Hydrological and soil studies on the site off Route 211 have been completed with copies now in Richmond for evaluation by the State Department of Solid Waste Man-agement. (The report is also on file at the clerk’s office and the zoning office here in Rappahannock where it can be reviewed by interested parties.) Should the state rule the site suitable for solid waste disposal and grant the necessary permits, the board will follow through on a contingency contract and purchase the 100 acres for $186,000.
