Another round of outdoor concerts is scheduled by the Bluemont Concert Series this weekend, with Dr. Scanlan and His Imperial Palms Orchestra scheduled to perform Saturday, Aug. 1, on the lawn of the Warren Green Hotel in Warrenton, and John McCutcheon playing on the steps of the old Courthouse in Culpeper on Sunday.
“Bring your family and friends to hear these 13 first-class musicians playing America’s greatest hits from the Roaring 20’s and the romantic 30’s,” said a Bluemont spokesman of Dr. Scanlan’s orchestra. “This is very different and special Big Band. Dancers love their perfect dance rhythm which ranges in style from fox trots mid waltzes to jitterbugs and tangos. Music lovers are transported back in time amidst a background of potted palms, tuxedoes and evening gowns.”
The audience will certainly be entertained, the spokesman promised, “as they play and sing the original arrangements of such classics as ‘Stardust,’ ‘It’s Only a Paper Moon,’ ‘Deep Purple,’ Tuttin’ on the Ritz,’ ‘Pennies from Heaven,’ ‘Minnie the Moocher’ and many, many more.
