son Randy of Point O’Woods near Front Royal and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Brown and daughters Amanda and Bobbie Jo spent Friday until Sunday camping at Woodland Acres Camping Resort in Quarryville, Pa. The children were entertained on Saturday night by a clown act called “Animal Crackers” and the group eryoyed shopping and touring at Bird N Hand, Intercourse, Paradise and Strasburg, Pa.
Sunday night Ms. Tanya Brown and Ms. Bonnie Brown of Gaithersburg, Md., visited Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Brown and family and enjoyed looking at photos and hearing about Tanya’s recent trip to California, Montana and Nevada.

nursing forum
Educational opportunities at the University of Virginia School of Nursing will be the subject of a forum sponsored by Culpeper Memorial Hospital on August 18, from 2 to 5 p.m. Geared especially for registered nurses who want to pursue a BSN degree, discussion will be led by Dr. Fay Raines, associate dean of Academic Programs at the school.
Dr. Raines and assistant dean of Alumni Affairs will be available after the presentation for individual counseling. All RNs in the community are invited to attend.
Revival and
homecoming
at Slate Mills
Homecoming and revival will be held at the Slate Mills Baptist Church, beginning Sunday, August 9, and continuing through Friday, August 14. Sunday School, with classes for all ages, begins at 10 o’clock, directed by John Coates.
The Rev. Bruce Griffith Jr. of Roanoke will be guest evangelist. He was bom in Fauquier County and grew up in Fairfax County, attending Herndon High School.
A graduate of Richmond University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, he has been pastor of churches in Virginia and has served on the General Board of Virginia Baptists.
Dinner will be served under the new picnic shelter following morning worship Sunday. ,;*s
Nightly services begin at 8 o’clock and special music is planned for each service.
The pastor and congregation invite the public to share with them in these services.

carney winners
The Chester Gap Fireman’s Carnival concluded on Saturday, July 25 with a horseshoe pitching tournament and the awarding of the Fire Department’s cash prizes.
The second annual horseshoe pitch was won by James Shipe and Bobby Huff. They defeated Hubie Gilkey and Bruce Williams, who collected a second-place trophy.
Cash awards were presented to Ed Marcey of Flint Hill ($1,000), Jesse Cameron of Front Royal ($200), and Mary Atkins of Sperryville ($100).
The handmade afgan was presented to Wendy Priest of Front Royal, a five-gallon cooler went to Wayne North of Chester Gap, a stuffed polar bear was awarded to Edna Williams, also of Chester Gap. Another stuffed bear, a brown bear, was presented to Will Mahoney of Front Royal.
Hubie Gilkey, president of the fire department, said that, on behalf of the members of the Chester Gap Fire Department he expressed his appreciation to all the members of the community who attended the fair and, by their patronage, assisted the fire department in this nuqor fundraising activity.
