‘Crimes of the Heart’
The movie Crimes of Heart will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre August 8 and 9 at 7:30 each evening. The lilting gingerbread gothic features Diane Keaton, Sissy Spacek and Jessica Lange as the eccentric Mississippi MaGraths. The sisters are reunited back home in Hazelhurst when the youngest, Babe (Spacek), shoots her rich husband. Keaton is the responsible eldest, Lenny, a reluctant spinster and Lange is the middle sister Meg, a failed singer who enjoys a return engagement with Sam Shepard as her old lover Doc. Theirs is a gracious collaboration directed by Tender Mercies Bruce Beresford from an adaptation by Beth Henley, who wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Powerhouse performances propel this quirky, comic ultra-feminine portrait. The movie is rated PG-13. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
