“It’s a matter of the person who I feel will best represent the interests of Virginia,” said Hampton District Supervisor J. Newbill Miller, explaining his decision to back William C. Chase Jr. in his bid to unseat incumbent State Senator Kevin Miller. “Local governing bodies need representation in Richmond,” he added, Hand I think that Bill has the experience to do that. Bill Chase hasn’t changed since I’ve' known him; he’s the same person whom I met 20 years ago.”
Washington attorney Doug Baumgardner said, “I think that Bill Chase brings an abundance of experience to the office of state senator. Everywhere he’s been, in every aspect of his life, he’s been a leader. He’s been a leader in Culpeper, serving as chairman of the board of supervisors - establishing himself as a responsible local official.”
Mr. Baumgardner added that he feels that Mr. Chase, as a Democrat, “is positioned to get things done for this district. He will serve as a member of the majority party. In the Senate, there are 31 Democrats and nine Republicans ... It doesn’t take somebody well-schooled in politics to figure out that if you want someone to get things done for you, it pays to have somebody who has an influence with the party which controls the apparatus of the state
