On Tuesday afternoon, Steve Johnson, Mr. Chase’s campaign manager, said that the campaign stands behind the statements, and denied there were any falsities involved.
Regarding the notification of meetings, Mr. Johnson said that “according to the office of the Culpeper County administrator, Mr. Miller has received approximately 20 monthly agendas (of the supervisors’ meetings) since the winter of 1986 alone.
“He was sent a resolution concerning Commonwealth Park. Delegate Andy Guest and Delegate George Beard were sent the resolution also — and both responded. Sen. Miller either ignored it or didn’t bother to open it, since it was just another letter from a local government.”
Regarding the mobile home issue, Mr. Johnson said that, “Sen. Miller is just trying to send up a smokescreen to hide the fact that he’s not responsive to our local governments. The boards of supervisors in Rappahannock and Culpeper opposed it, and he acted against their wishes.”
