As to the transportation ranaing, Mr. Johnson said that “Sen. Miller’s choice was to stand for building our communities or sitting back and hoping that things would take care of themselves. He chose the latter.”
Mr. Chase also issued a statement in response to Sen. Miller’s charges. “All his political life, Mr. Miller has been portraying himself as a faithful conservative. Given Mr. Miller’s actions as a legislator, it’s easy to understand why he’s defensive about his record.
“Like Thomas Jefferson, conservatives believe that our people and our local governments know what’s best for them.
“It’s not conservative to ignore the people at the grass foots.
"It’s not conservative to put government in competition with private employers.
“It’s not conservative to help state government to override our local housing preferences.”
Mr. Chase added that he was “surprised” that Sen. Miller “either forgot how he voted or attempted to shade his record . . . This is an office that belongs to the public, and we ought to be more open with them.”
