HeDo. I’m Harold Poling, chairman of the National 4-H Council. I'd like to talk with you about what 4-H means to me, to you and to our future.
Today, possibly more than at any time in our history, young people are foil of questions about their future. While in many ways the “act of living” has become easier than ever before, the “art of living” has become more complex.
Changing lifestyles, increased mobility, high technology and faster communications all have a strong effect on the expectations of our youth.
But it is these very factors that make 4-H effective.
I was a 4-H member and I know that 4-H teaches life skills and helps young people set goals, keep records and come to conclusions. That leamby-doing process helps young people make achievement a habit and gain satisfaction from a job well done.
One of the great strengths of this youth program comes from the willingness of men and women like you to volunteer time, talent and finances.
That volunteer spirit is needed even more today - a spirit that inspires us to rededicate ourselves to that goal.
Together we can insure the future of this country and a positive direction for the next generation.
