She loves her new job with an enthusiasm that is barely contained. “As a field nurse, I worked mostly with patients who had cancer or heart disease. Most of them were dying, and I was trying to provide the care that would enable them to stay at home. It was challenging, and it taught me to be independent. I learned to give I Vs and chemotherapy in the home. I learned to work outside of an institutional-type setting. But I was ready for a change!
“I really didn’t know what being a public health nurse meant when I applied. There are so many programs, so many free services that the Health Department offers. I had no idea! I’m hoping to go out more in the schools and the community. I want to do more things at the Senior Citizen Nutrition Site. I’d like to give talks there at least once a month. I want to be real active.” She smiled, shaking her head and sighing. “But right now, I’m just learning about the programs. There are so many.
“Let me tell you about them — if I can remember them all! People should know what’s available here at the Health Department,” Marion insisted.
