Chivalry is not dead in Virginia — no, sir!

I work in Richmond several days a week, and commute from my home in Fredericksburg on Interstate 95. On my way to work last Sunday, Oct. 16,1 had the misfortune to have what every woman driving alone dreads, a flat tire. I mean it was flat!

I was traveling in the far left or passing lane, and managed to get my car off the highway and onto the shoulder without mishap. I got out of my car, dressed in my nurse’s white uniform, and looked at the shredded remains of the tire.

I decided to go ahead and get the spare tire and jack out of the trunk, all the while thinking, “Someone will stop and offer some assistance.” Boy, was I in for a rude awakening.

There must have been a hundred cars zipping by, and not one would stop. I waited for more than an hour.
