George Bush and Dan Quayle have the incredible nerve to warn us against “big-spending Democrats.” The Reagan-Bush administration has given us the eight largest years of peace-time government spending in our history, and over a trillion dollars of it has been put on our credit card for our children and grandchildren to pay off.
The interest on this huge debt amounts to $640 a year for every man, woman and child in the U.S. Too much of this debt is held abroad, and too much of the interest goes there, so that foreigners are buying up our factories, farms, banks and commercial jseal estate. . ..
A prominent Japanese recently bragged that Japan would soon be able to dictate U.S. economic policy. Lobbyists for foreign-owned companies already pressure Congress for legislation in their favor.
Reagan-Bush spending has been inflated by sloppy procurement management, billion-dollar weapon systems that were not needed, some that were abandoned after huge expenditures because they could not be made to work, and fraud in procurement.
