Stonewall-Hawthorne District Supervisor Nelson P. Lane pleaded guilty last Thursday to a misdemea^ nor charge of maliciously destroying and interfering with equipment or transmission of messages over a telephone line.
Judge William A. Talley Jr. accepted Mr. Lane’s plea in Culpeper County General District Court and fined him $500 and costs. That is the maximum penalty for the offense, a Class 3 misdemeanor.
The charge was brought by Francis A. Sargent of American International Exports Inc., who requested that the Culpeper County Sheriffs Department investigate apparent tampering with the answering -machine connected to his business telephone.
