Company boosts county's economy
After the four-laning project is completed, Mr. Woodard said he plans to add a new front for the retail trade.
Faith Mountain Company employs 25 residents of Rappahannock County, Mr. Woodward said. These are mothers and high school students working after school. He said his December payroll was in excess of $29,000. “This is money going into the Rappahannock County economy,” he said.
The new location might even help alleviate traffic on Route 211, he told the planners. Most of the vehicles coming to his business come from the east; they would not have to travel to the “most congested part of the road around Sperryville,” he said.
“The way our business is growing, we need additional space this summer. We can’t wait for the highway,” Mr. Woodard said. “If we can’t get rezoning, we will have to leave the county.”
Faith Mountain employee Joyce Ralls said she could not relocate if the business moved out of the county. “We can come in after the children get on the school bus and leave in time to meet them coming from school. This way I can be a fulltime mother and have a full-time job,” she said.
Another employee, Betty Walter, told of having to run through the rain carrying flowers from one building to another at the present location. “The shipping area is up to here in packages. I’m not complaining,” she said. “Cheri and Martin are our friends as well as our bosses. We want you to approve this so we can have better working conditions.”
